The portrait of an Artist as a Young Woman

Annita Adamou is definitely not your typical blonde and blue-eyed actress.

Extensively trained in the two big capitals of the entertainment industry, New York and Los Angeles and in Athens Greece, the birth capital of theatre, in various acting and movement techniques including the famous Method by Lee Strasberg, Meisner technique, Alexander, Michael Chekov, Uta Hagen, Lesaac, Suzuki etc, holder of an MFA and UCLA scholarship recipient, she has become an expert in her field.

Annita has collaborated with ground-breaking directors like PhD Maria Frangi whose credits include a show in front of the Pyramids in Egypt and multi-awarded theatre director, playwright and poet Niki Rapti. She has portrayed heroines adapted from the stories of genius novelists like Edgar Allan Poe and Alexandros Papadiamantis, women who suffered the consequences of being a free spirit in a prejudiced world that fears anything outside ‘normality’.

Annita is a well-rounded performer with interests in neuroscience for a deeper understanding of human workings and a big fan of TED Talks. She often incorporates visual and conceptual art in her work.

She is a cinephile and admirer of grand auteurs like Tarkovsky, Kieslowski, Bergmann and especially drawn to the Japanese Cinema of Kurosawa and Mizoguchi.

Annita has been the assistant of Golden Venice Lion, Golden Berlin Bear nominee and 17-time award winner, internationally-acclaimed director Pantelis Voulgaris. Her Modigliani-like self-portrait painted by an artist mesmerized and inspired by her performances, was featured in an exhibition about exceptional women in Athens.

Annita grew up watching martial art movies with her brother and later became a martial artist of Kung Fu and Tai Chi herself. She is proud to have met her childhood hero Jackie Chan in Los Angeles. She is also a Kundalini yoga practitioner and lover of techniques that promote balance and health.  Not many people know she is a vegetarian, an empath and a discreet philanthropist helping less fortunate fellow humans.

Francis Ford Coppola has sung her a Greek song during an audition and her encounter with Woody Allen was featured in Washignton Post by a journalist who was present and inspired to write an article.

All in all, Annita Adamou is a star with the true meaning of the word, not the one with the glitters, but the one that shines from within and it’s destined to shed light to a world that seems to very much need it.
