Holidays and Your Dog

For most dog owners having a pet companion is one of the best things that has ever happened to them. In my opinion, dogs are superior than other pets for many different reasons: they are smart, faithful, playful, they offer comfort in difficult times (and joy in happy times), and they can even become therapy companions for those who feel especially vulnerable. I know from personal experience that many dog owners feel like they are limited when it comes to travel simply because they don’t want to leave their dog behind or they worry that their dog might not be happy without them. Here are a few solutions to this as there are a lot more options than people usually realise:

1. For the last couple of years traveling with dogs has gained on popularity. It is no wonder then that many hotels and various tourist attractions have been striving to become more pet friendly to attract more visitors. You might want to check some pet-friendly hotels such as pet friendly hotels Sedona. The good news is that the list of hotels accepting dog keeps growing each year. If you are unsure how your dog will do during your holiday travels, you might want to start slowly and aim for short breaks first and then gradually extent the duration of your stays.

2. If for some reason you think that traveling with your dog is not a good idea you might want to choose to ask somebody to take care of it while you are gone. It might be hard for some dog owners, but only because you will have to leave your dog behind for a few days does not have to mean that you shouldn’t travel anymore. If possible, for the duration of your holidays, leave your dog with a family member who is familiar with your pet. Preferably, let them spend some time together prior to your departure. Dogs are known to show a lot of attachment to their owners, so make sure that you prepare it for the time when you are going to be absent. Kennels might be an option too, but again you will need to make sure that your dog is happy there prior to your departure.
