Enjoying the Autumn

With September beginning all around us, we have to start to acknowledge that the summer is drawing to a close and autumn is on the horizon. It’s not always the easiest season to enjoy: plans are difficult when weather isn’t consistent. The depths of winter might be cold, dark and rainy but they are at least consistently so, so you won’t be caught out.

Autumn, on the other hand, is changeable. You could plan a wholesome, hearty walk in the country only to find it rained off when the day comes. You could decide that your weekend is going to devoted to shutting out the world and watching old movies, only to find that unexpected late autumn sun makes staying in the house something of a crime.

Today we’re looking at a few tips to help you enjoy this tricky season.

Dressing for It

Picking out a good outfit can be difficult for a day when the morning is cold and rainy, the afternoon is warm and muggy. The key is layering, with a perfectly autumnal luxury cashmere sweater covering a t-shirt, and itself zipped snuggly under a coat  gives you all the protection you need whatever the weather serves you, and gives you a chance to express yourself with some smart and fashionable choices!

Plans and Fallback Plans

As we said earlier, autumn has a tendency to wreck the best laid plans you can come up with. Walks rained off, rainy Sundays planned for and then abandoned, and everything in between.

There are a couple of ways you can mitigate against this. Firstly try to maintain some flexibility: if you have a few plans in play with friends, from films you want to see to outdoor activities you want to do together you can pick a day and then do whatever is suitable for the weather, from football to a marathon of all the Lord of the Ring’s films.

Ready for Anything

Whatever you’re planning you need to be ready for a sudden change in the weather. Keep an umbrella or a raincoat in your backpack, and you can keep going on a walk even if you get overtaken by the rain.

If your day out really is ruined by the rain, and you’re forced to retreat to a café or a pub, you can still salvage the time if you’re ready with a pack of cards or a simple game you can keep with you to break out you don’t have to just give up on your plans.
