Traveling and Your Dog

Traveling with your dog can be a truly wonderful experience regardless of whether you travel alone or with your family. A well-behaved dog is a great addition to any adventures you encounter during your travels. Having said that, there are some things you will need to do before you embark on your escapades:

1. The most important thing is to ensure that you stay in a pet-friendly hotel such as the best pet friendly hotels in Seattle. Different hotels will have different requirements regarding dogs such as whether they are allowed to walk in all parts of the hotel and whether or not you need to display a dog sign on your hotel room door. It’s always best to familiarise yourself with all the rules to avoid any miscommunication and tensions.

2. Make sure that you have all the proper equipment you will need for your dog during your travels. For example, sometimes, if your dog is small, you might need a crate to transport it safely. You should also take with you all the medical/vaccination records related to your pet because you are very likely to need to show them in various places. Lastly, don’t forget all the toys and other objects that your dog enjoys and is likely to miss when you are not at home. You might even want to take your dog’s own bed just to make things easier for all of you.

3. Ensure that all your dog’s vaccinations are up to date. You don’t want to get stranded somewhere only because not everything is like it should be. It’s best to visit a veterinarian before your trip so that they can give you a green light and that you know that it is safe to travel with your dog. If your pooch is already sick or is likely to become unwell during your trip, it might be a good idea to take some medication with you even if nothing bad happens when you are on the road.

4. You will always need a supply of fresh water because dogs rely on it to stay hydrated. Don’t think that you will have a chance to refill your water bottle somewhere, but rather take enough water with you to last for a few days.
